Going through my House of Colour journey has been amazing. It has given me confidence in knowing what to wear and how to make sure my fashion is right for me on a tight student budget!
I started my journey with the colour class, and I had a great time learning about the colours for my season and why they suited me. As a young woman shopping for the latest fashion trends on the high street, my colour class helped me find my way with colours, knowing exactly what bright and neutral shades to put together and which on trend colours are the best ones for me. This means I can put colours together for different situations such as going on job interviews, going on nights out with friends or even spending time at home with my family, I always know I look my best. The colour class was the first important step but it amazed me how much more there was to learn with the Personal Style class too.
Going through college and then off to University was a big step for me, especially moving away from home into a tiny room in University halls with an even smaller wardrobe!!
Using the capsule wardrobe technique I learned about in the Personal Style class made it so much easier to think about what I was going to need to take with me to University, especially with such limited space. I couldn't take all of my clothes, however I knew that the ones I did take would lend themselves to every occasion that I'd come across whilst away from home.
The Personal Style class was a really fun day and it was insightful being able to look at other people in the class sharing the same experience and understanding why the top with the Peter Pan collar looked better on someone else rather than me. Knowing that not all clothes on trend suit every body's shape and personality meant I knew exactly what styles and cuts of clothing work best for me so I don't waste my precious budget on any fashion faux pas!
My experience with House of Colour has taught me how to spend my money wisely and making sure I've used my budget to buy investment pieces that work out really well in terms of price per wear. Being a student doesn't mean I always have to head to the sale rack or cheaper high street shops, spending money on good quality clothing will work out better in the long run. Many of the things I have bought have lasted me all the way through from my first year to my last, meaning that I haven't constantly had to update my wardrobe. The clothes still look great and I've had so many compliments that I always look good, even at 9am lectures after a student night out!
Finding out what suits me in the Personal Style class has also helped me find my clothing identity and feel comfortable in myself and with what I wear. Whilst growing up, I think that it is important to feel that you are an individual. I don't want to look exactly the same as all of my friends!
Overall I have really enjoyed the whole House of Colour experience; it has helped me to be confident with colour and style in clothing when I haven't got much money to spend. I feel I know how to shop for me as an individual rather than following everyone else. Having regular Fashion Updates from my consultant has helped me pick out what is perfect for my clothing personality from the high street stores so I can afford and still stay on trend. Daily university life includes attending lectures and seminars with my tutors and the good old student nights out. They have all been made so much easier when I know what to wear giving me confidence to get on with life while I'm away from home.
